Round Robin Time: Valentines Day

It's Round Robin Time! The theme this month is of course Valentines Day and I have to admit we are kind of slackers this year. OK and probably most years. See my husband's birthday is today, Hero's birthday is tomorrow, we are having a party on Saturday and Sunday is Valentines Day plus a huge fundraiser for our new Waldorf inspired Charter School. Dang makes me tired just listing it all. I think this cold thing I have/had has really whipped me, I am so tired and my brain feels addled and fuzzy. But maybe that's because I have a 17 year old son. I remember 17, which makes me feel, a little uneasy.

Onward though, to our little decorating project. We have been busily cutting on the lines to make hearts and taping them eveywhere. We do LOVE the tape around here, did you ever see this photo after we gave Union a 6 pack of tape for his 5th birthday? That's Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper which were the first things he did with his tape. We had money on him taping his little brother to the floor first but costumes were the big winner. Boys are so unpredictable!

While the boys were cutting hearts and mummifying the house in them, I was busy making a heart garland. It's so easy you just need paper, scissors and a sewing machine. And kids will definitely enjoy sewing these with you on the machine.

Heart Garland:
  • find some interesting paper to cut into heart shapes, I recycled an old music book for a first year drummer, Yes, I am the mother of a drummer, a 17 year old drummer...and I'm still sane, mostly
  • after cutting as many hearts as you want to hang together, start sewing them, leave some thread at the beginning to hang it with, then leave a little space between each or over lap them-I like the way these looked separated a bit
  • when you have sewn all the hearts together continue sewing for a few inches to give yourself a nice long end to hang it with
  • hang where ever you need a little love!

Easy, upcycled and pretty, budget friendly too.

    3. Looks like you have an action-packed weekend ahead! I must admit, I'm a decorating slacker. I got into it when my daughter was little, but now that she's 16, I can't get motivated. Oh well. It's the thought that counts, right?

    4. So, our husband's do have the same birthday! Small world:) I'll be posting my red velvet cake later today. Sadly, the cake is from a mix, but the frosting is homemade! As you know, being a mom you sometimes just can't get it all done!
