How to get out the door with less stress in the morning
I was thinking of this idea this morning as my kids slipped off to get dressed before school. One headed to the bathroom and the other was finishing up getting dressed when it happened. I dropped an entire gallon of milk on our newly refinished kitchen floor. Milk and broken glass blew from our mudroom to our dining room and of course drenched the kitchen too. Now a gallon of milk doesn't go too far with 3 boys here so how come it spread to so far so fast when it hit the floor?
I screamed some obscenity I'm sure, I don't really know what flew out of my mouth but it was not pretty. I yelled for towels while I tried to get into shoes and mop broken glass mixed with milk, pretty sure I was looking like shaggy and scooby doo seeing a ghost right about then. Every bath towel was dropped on the milk in a matter of seconds but it still ran everywhere including UNDER our new cabinets(NOT INSTALLED YET, SIMPLY WAITING TO BE INSTALLED) and under the fridge.
I mopped up and tried to regroup before driving my boyos to school. I was sweaty, my blood pressure was probably through the roof and where I had previously been clean and fresh I was now dampish and cranky. My middle son took this moment to ask/tell "I need boots mom can we go buy them today?" Timing child--you must work on it.
I had to call my husband home from work to help me move the fridge to get to the milk under it. I knew I could move it, that was not the problem the problem was the huge pantry cabinets sitting on either side of it. So heavy they took two grown men and me to supervise bringing them in. If I knocked one over I would be in serious trouble. More trouble than my husband, who put a huge 2 foot scratch in our kitchen floor the night before, got into. So he helped me roll that beast out and sucked glass with the shop vac while I mopped up all the milk.
No worries though because by 10 o'clock the mess I'd made with one slip of a hand at 7:45 am was cleaned up. The rest of the day was pretty smooth until I gloated on facebook about the trouble being over and done with. STUPID MOVE. Right about then I heard a massive crash from the bathroom where our kids were washing dishes in the tub. Yes, it seems they stacked a baking sheet on a slant and proceeded to cover it with clean dishes. We'll just leave it at this, there were more sharp broken bits to vacuum up.
Don't worry I do have a real post coming about smoother mornings but I could not write it today with the morning I had. Maybe tomorrow or next week. This year definitely.
